How to Solve Codeword Puzzles

A codeword is a crossword with no clues: every number from 1 to 26 stands for one letter of the alphabet, and it’s the same letter everywhere that number appears. Crack the code, and the grid fills itself in.

  1. An empty codeword grid — every white square carries a small number from 1 to 26
    Every number is a letter

Same number, same letter — everywhere in the grid. A few starter letters are given to get you going.

  2. The same grid with the hint letters N and K filled into every square that carries their numbers
    Hints get you started

Fill in the hint letters wherever their numbers appear and watch patterns emerge.

  3. The solved grid with every letter revealed — complete words like KAYAK emerge as the code is cracked
    Crack the code

Work letter by letter until every word is revealed. Every puzzle has exactly one solution.
